Megamind & Metroman Alien Redesign

Today (err, yesterday I guess) I was struck with a sudden rememberance of the film Megamind. I watched it in theaters as a kid, and a few other times on DVD maybe, or perhaps netflix... but I always thought it was a pretty neat movie! So, as the alien enthusiast I am, I decided I would challenge myself today by drawing Megamind and Metroman as more otherworldly-looking characters (since y'know, they're both VERY human-looking, Metroman especially).
I decided I would depict Megamind as an aquatic/amphibious alien, for one because Minion is already very fish-like, but also because octopi are very intelligent! And I wanted him to look a bit like one. His "teeth" are not made of enamel, but rather very sharp bone (kind of like the prehistoric fish, Dunkleosteus). He has 4 arms with 2 "fingers" for holding objects, and 2 arms that would be used for swimming on his homeworld, but they're pretty much vestigial now that he's on land all the time, so they're more like tails for him I suppose. The 2 long antennae coming from the sides of his head are sensory organs, they help him hear and smell. Standing upright isn't exactly a natural posture for him, but he manages.
Metroman comes from a primarily aerial planet, so he is adapted to flight (and can levitate, as he does in the film). He has only 1 eye, which can fire concentrated laser beams. His arms are rooted to his head, and despite their floaty and light appearance, he can pack quite a punch! The extra thin antenna-like growths are actually derived 5th digits, which are prehensile and much more flexible than his other fingers. The 'hair' surrounding his face is actually more like reptilian scales, so his pompadour is more like a crest. The white fringe on his front & back legs is feathers (derived from the fringe he has on his suit in the film). Thanks to his hooves, he can comfortably stand upright on the ground, but often simply prefers not to.

This piece took me 4 hours and 38 minutes, over the course of 1 day. Which is to say, I think the actual colored piece took a good... 2/3 of that time, while the other 1/3 was spent on the extra sketches.

Megamind and Metroman belong to Dreamworks.

full body & full color drawing of Metroman & Megamind. Since Megamind was already the more alien of the 2, he def looks more recognizable in his alien form than Metroman does...

up-close sketches! This was mostly useful for detail work on Megamind, because I had a clearer vision of Metroman from the start...
